2020 Aubert - Chardonnay Napa Sugar Shack Estate

Mark Aubert grew up in St. Helena and learned his craft at Peter Michael, Bryant and Colgin before founding Aubert with his wife Teresa in 1999. Sugar Shack is their home vineyard, on the western side of Rutherford in the heart of Napa Valley. It’s their only Napa Chardonnay. It’s planted to the Montrachet clone, which Mark nicknames “the citrus circus” for its vivid citrus character. In 2020, Sugar Shack was the first site Aubert picked, on August 17, so the fruit came in fresh and early. Lisa Perrotti-Brown called Aubert’s 2020 Chardonnays some of the finest he’s ever made. Expect lime zest, yellow peach, pear and baked apple, with honey, allspice and a hint of marzipan. The palate is full and rich, with a satiny texture that tightens into a bright, citrus-driven finish. Gorgeous with lobster, crab or roast chicken, and it will drink well through 2035.
