Remy Martin V.S.O.P. Cognac 750ml
Rémy Martin was founded in 1724 and is unique among the major cognac houses for producing exclusively Fine Champagne Cognac, meaning every bottle draws its eaux-de-vie only from the top two crus, Grande Champagne and Petite Champagne, rather than blending across the region's six growing areas. Rather than relying solely on estate vineyards, the house built its reputation through a long-standing network of growers organized under the Alliance Fine Champagne, which coordinates viticulture and winemaking standards across contracted partners.
This VSOP, first assembled in 1927 by cellar master André Renaud, combines roughly fifty-five percent Grande Champagne eaux-de-vie with forty-five percent from Petite Champagne. The blend is distilled almost entirely from Ugni Blanc grapes, with small additions of Colombard and Folle Blanche for aromatic nuance, then matured for a minimum of four years, with individual eaux-de-vie ranging up to twelve years, in French Limousin oak.
The nose opens with vanilla and butterscotch, layered with dried apricot, baking spice, and a touch of white flowers. On the palate, candied pear and stone fruit lead into a honeyed, slightly nutty mid-palate, with warm spice and toasted oak carrying through a smooth, lingering finish. It works equally well neat, over ice, or shaken into a ginger-based highball.
