2005 Chateau Latour - Pauillac (750ml)
As classic Latour as it gets, carrying the 2005 vintage's dense, powerful, massively concentrated signature. A blend of 87% Cabernet Sauvignon with the balance Merlot and Petit Verdot, grown on a 116-acre gravel-bar vineyard at Pauillac's southern border overlooking the Gironde, some vines now reaching 100 years old. James Suckling found a complex nose of lavender, currants, spices, and hot stones, full and dense on the palate with a very tight structure, perfectly polished tannins, and an intense finish of wonderful fruit and truffle character, turning almost decadent with air. Darker currants, scorched earth, leather, and green tobacco round out the profile, built in the quintessential "fist inside an iron glove" style this estate is famous for. One of the most sought-after and consistently acclaimed wines of an exceptional vintage, with a drinking window extending past 2070.
