Few estates on the planet inspire the reverence of Margaux, the only property to earn a perfect 20/20 score in the historic 1855 Classification, and the 2005 is a monument even by that standard. A blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Merlot, aged two years in 100% new oak, from a vintage Robert Parker called one of the most singular years of the past five decades for its outrageous concentration, power, and structure. James Suckling found the nose more concentrated than even the legendary 2000, with stunning purity of blueberry, raspberry, fresh flowers, and licorice, full-bodied, thick, and velvety with perfectly polished tannins and remarkable density. Antonio Galloni called it, in two separate tastings, nothing less than magnificent, off the charts, and easily one of the wines of the vintage, vibrant and beautifully layered with stunning perfume and inner sweetness. A genuine monument of a bottling, built to be as long-lived as it is great.
"An another level, the 2005 Château Margaux is as good as it gets, offering an incredible, full-bodied, layered style as well as the classic nuance, complexity, and elegance this Château is known for. Based on 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Merlot raised in new barrels, its still youthful ruby/purple hue is followed by a kaleidoscope-like array of cassis, smoked currants, cedar pencil, spring flowers, and graphite. With incredible concentration, a multi-dimensional, layered mouthfeel, loads of ripe yet perfectly integrated tannins, and a finish that makes you salivate, this insanely good Margaux is just now at the early stages of its prime drinking window and has another 30 years of prime drinking ahead of it. Legendry juice."
