The idea for Zapp’s came when Ron Zappe’s wife brought home a bag of kettle-fried chips made in Texas. After 10 banks turned him down, the 11th gave him a loan, and in 1985 he began making thick-cut chips in a former Chevrolet dealership in Gramercy, Louisiana. Along the way, Zapp’s Tiger Tators became the first food product licensed by LSU, and the brand grew from a regional favorite into a national snack.

The regular flavor keeps the recipe simple: potatoes, vegetable oil, and sea salt. There is no seasoning blend, just salt. The chips are kettle cooked one batch at a time and are gluten free. The oil is a blend that can include peanut, corn, cottonseed, sunflower, canola, safflower, and soybean oils.

Crunchy and thick-cut, these chips have a hearty bite and a clean, simple flavor built on sea salt and the natural taste of potato.
