NV Quinta Do Crasto - Porto Tawny Port 30 Year Old (750ml)
Quinta do Crasto is one of the Douro's most historic estates, with written records of wine production dating back to 1615, its name derived from the Latin castrum, or Roman fort. In the early twentieth century the property was purchased by Constantino de Almeida, founder of the Constantino Port house, and later passed through his family before Leonor and Jorge Roquette took over ownership and management in 1981. Now guided by the fourth generation of family stewardship, including their children Miguel, Tomás, and Rita, the estate sits on steep schist slopes in the Cima Corgo, between Régua and Pinhão, and has become one of the region's most respected producers of both Port and Douro table wines.
This 30 Year Old Tawny is built from a careful blend of old reserve wines averaging three decades in cask, sourced from Crasto's historic vineyard plots. Grapes are hand harvested into small crates and rigorously sorted before gentle crushing, then trodden by foot in traditional granite presses. Fortification with wine brandy halts fermentation, and the resulting wines are aged separately in seasoned oak casks before the final blend is assembled to achieve consistency and depth across vintages.
The tawny pours bright amber with coppery highlights and offers a richly layered nose of dried fruit, caramelized fig, toasted almond, and orange marmalade, underscored by honey, spice, and a faint trace of iodine. On the palate it is concentrated yet smooth, with a fresh, silky texture that carries into a long, complex finish. It pairs beautifully with toasted nuts, a firm aged cheese, or simply alongside coffee or a cigar.
