The crown jewel of the Clair estate and one of the most thrilling Premier Cru values in all of Burgundy. The evocatively named "Les Murgers des Dents de Chien" — meaning "walls of dog's teeth," a nod to the jagged, rocky outcroppings that define this extraordinary site — is a vineyard of singular privilege and breathtaking location. Perched high on the Côte d'Or escarpment on a south-running spur, its eastern edge runs directly along the border with Puligny-Montrachet, overlooking the legendary Montrachet and Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru vineyards below. It is as close to Grand Cru terroir as one can get without paying Grand Cru prices.

The parcel faces due south with shallow, highly calcareous, rocky soils — little earth and many white stones — that impose a natural discipline on the vines and coax Chardonnay of extraordinary mineral intensity and precision. Fermented with both alcoholic and malolactic fermentation in barrel, with 20% new oak, and aged for ten to eleven months in cask, the result is a wine of real Burgundian grandeur — pale gold and luminous, with a nose of white flowers, flint, citrus blossom, toasted hazelnut, and crushed chalk. On the palate it is taut, crystalline, and electrifyingly mineral, with ripe lemon, white peach, almond, and a finish of extraordinary persistence and stony purity. A wine that punches squarely at the level of its Puligny and Chassagne neighbors at a fraction of the price — and one of the most compelling white Burgundy values on the market today.
