2024 Marc Colin - St. Aubin Sous Roche Dumay (750ml) (PRE ARRIVAL)
Domaine Marc Colin is now run by three of Marc's children, Damien, Joseph, and Caroline, following the departure of their brother Pierre-Yves in 2005. The estate farms roughly twenty hectares across thirty appellations in the Côte de Beaune, with the majority planted to white grapes, drawing fruit from Saint-Aubin, Chassagne-Montrachet, and Santenay. The 2024 growing season proved demanding, marked by mildew pressure and a spring frost that wiped out part of the domaine's Saint-Aubin plantings, though harvest began in mid-September under healthy ripeness levels.
Sous Roche Dumay is a premier cru site planted with vines between fifteen and twenty years old, growing in the shallow, chalky soils characteristic of Saint-Aubin's premier cru slopes. The 2024 vintage was picked without chaptalization, a choice made to preserve natural freshness and acidity in a season that demanded careful attention in the cellar. Fermentation and aging follow traditional Burgundian practice in barrel, allowing the wine to develop texture while retaining the precision the site is known for.
The wine offers a focused, detailed nose of citrus peel and wet stone, with a palate built on a crisp, well-balanced line of acidity. It shows a slightly austere edge on the finish that suggests further development with time in bottle. This is a food-friendly white best suited to roasted white fish, herbed chicken, or a simple gruyère.
