Bobby's Schiedam Dry Gin (750ml)
Bobby's Schiedam Dry Gin was born from the memory of Jacobus "Bobby" Alfons, who left Ambon in the Moluccas for the Netherlands in 1951 and kept a piece of home alive by infusing his jenever with a family spice blend called Pinang Raci. Years later his grandson Sebastiaan found an old bottle of that homemade creation and, together with his brother David, set out to bring it back to life. The pair partnered with Herman Jansen, a family distillery in Schiedam producing spirits since 1777, and after roughly two years of development launched Bobby's Schiedam Dry Gin in 2014.
The gin draws on organic Schiedam gin staples of juniper, coriander seed, fennel, and rosehips, balanced against Indonesian ingredients including lemongrass, cloves, cinnamon, and cubeb pepper. Rather than distilling everything together, the team ferments and distills each botanical separately in copper pot stills, then blends the resulting distillates to build the final spirit, which is bottled at 42 percent alcohol by volume.
The nose is soft and fragrant, with lemongrass and rosehips leading an exotic, almost tropical lift. Clove and coriander seed follow on the palate, layered with warm cinnamon, while the lemongrass returns for a bright, citrusy finish. The overall effect is more floral and spiced than a classic London Dry, with real depth and a long, aromatic close.
