Isle Of Harris Infused With Sugar Kelp Gin 750ml
Isle of Harris Gin comes from the Isle of Harris Distillery, founded in 2015 by Anderson "Burr" Bakewell in the small village of Tarbert on the Outer Hebridean island of Harris. Known locally as "the social distillery," the company was built to create lasting jobs and keep island life sustainable, opening its doors to visitors most days of the week with a peat fire burning at its heart. The gin was the distillery's first release, distilled entirely on the island in a small copper still nicknamed "The Dottach."
The gin is built around nine botanicals, most notably sugar kelp, a native seaweed hand-harvested from local sea lochs by a diver on the island. It joins juniper, coriander seed, cassia bark, angelica root, bitter orange peel, cubebs, liquorice root, and orris root to form the recipe. Every bottle is distilled, bottled, and sealed on Harris, with a paper seal marking the distillery's coordinates as a guarantee of its Outer Hebridean origin.
The nose opens with juniper and pine resin, moving into bright citrus notes of orange and grapefruit. On the palate, floral and herbaceous flavors emerge alongside the citrus, while the sugar kelp lends a dry, saline, maritime edge that sets this gin apart. The finish turns toward soft vanilla and warm black pepper, staying long and clean throughout. It makes a natural match for a classic gin and tonic or a dry martini, and pairs beautifully with fresh oysters or other simple shellfish.
