Opihr Oriental Spiced Gin was created by Joanne Moore, the world's first female Master Gin Distiller, and launched in the UK in 2013. It is produced at G&J Distillers in Cheshire, an operation tracing back to Thomas Dakin's original 1761 distillery and now recognized as the world's oldest continuously operating gin distillers. The brand belongs to Quintessential Brands Group, founded in 2011 by former Gruppo Campari CEO Enzo Visone and entrepreneur Warren Scott. Opihr takes its name, pronounced o-peer, from a legendary region referenced in the time of King Solomon, famed as a source of great riches and exotic spices, a story that inspired the gin's spice route theme.

The gin follows the ancient trading routes that once carried spices into Britain, sourcing cubeb berries from Indonesia, tellicherry black pepper and cardamom from India, and coriander from Morocco, alongside cumin and ginger. These hand-picked botanicals are infused into high-quality English grain spirit at G&J Distillers, giving the gin its distinctly warm, spice-forward character within a London Dry framework.

The nose carries a rich, smooth perfume with sharp bursts of citrus. On the palate, cumin and cardamom bring a warm, earthy depth, balanced by grapefruit peel and a touch of soft camphor. The finish lingers gently, with oriental spice and a mild sweetness that stays consistent rather than intensifying, closing out a gin built for warmth rather than sharpness.
