Roku Gin comes from Suntory, the storied Japanese beverage company founded in Osaka in 1899 by Shinjiro Torii, whose gin heritage stretches back to the launch of Hermes Gin in 1936. Roku is produced at Suntory's Liquor Atelier, a specialized craft distillery equipped with four distinct types of pot stills, allowing each botanical to be distilled separately according to its own character rather than infused all at once. The gin's name means "six" in Japanese, referring to the six signature Japanese botanicals at its core, each celebrated on a side of the bottle's hexagonal shape.

Those six botanicals, sakura flower, sakura leaf, yuzu peel, sencha tea, gyokuro tea, and sansho pepper, are harvested at their seasonal peak according to the Japanese concept of shun, then distilled using the method best suited to each: delicate cherry blossom is drawn out through vacuum distillation in stainless stills, while the more robust yuzu is distilled in copper. These six extracts are blended with eight traditional gin botanicals, including juniper, coriander, angelica root and seed, cardamom, cinnamon, and citrus peels, to round out the structure.

The nose opens with cherry blossom and green tea, giving a floral, faintly sweet first impression. On the palate, juniper and citrus provide a familiar gin backbone, while the sansho pepper adds a subtle, tingling spice and the teas bring an earthy, savory depth. The finish is clean and contemplative, with green tea and a whisper of citrus lingering longest.

"Roku, which translates as ?six? in Japanese, is made with six traditional Japanese botanicals that are infused, distilled and blended by the Japanese artisans of Suntory Spirits in Osaka, Japan. The premium craft gin's flavor profile is achieved by balancing six unique Japanese botanicals with eight traditional gin botanicals. The Japanese botanicals - Sakura flower, Sakura leaf, Yuzu peel, Sencha tea, Gyokuro tea and Sansho pepper - are harvested in accordance with 'shun', the tradition of enjoying each ingredient at its best by only harvesting at its peak of flavor and perfection. It is then distilled using a selection of different pot stills, each chosen to ensure the best flavor is extracted from each botanical. The result is a complex yet harmonious gin with a smooth and silky texture.

Its bottle and label have been carefully designed to appeal to the Japanese sense of aesthetics and beauty. Roku's bottle is cast in a hexagonal shape, representing each of the six uniquely Japanese botanicals inside, and is finished with delicate embossing. The Japanese kanji symbol for six is printed on the label, which is made of traditional washi paper.
