2024 Skouras - Moscofilero Peloponnese (750ml)
George Skouras, a native of Argos in the Peloponnese, is regarded as one of the pioneers of the modern Greek wine renaissance, having earned his oenology degree in Dijon at a time when few Greek producers were making wines with serious international ambition. He founded his winery in 1986 and has since built a range that draws on both indigenous Greek grapes and international varieties, sourcing fruit from estate vineyards as well as trusted growers across the region to craft wines that speak to Greece's diverse terroir.
This Moscofilero comes from the high-altitude plateau of Mantineia, where vineyards planted on alluvial soils sit several hundred meters above sea level. The cooler conditions at this elevation slow the ripening process, allowing the grape's naturally high acidity and aromatic character to develop fully. The wine is made from several different clones, fermented in stainless steel without malolactic conversion to preserve its brightness, and given only brief skin contact before a short period of aging on fine lees.
The finished wine shows a pale straw color with lifted aromas of white flowers, rose petal, violet, and honeysuckle, layered over citrus and stone fruit. On the palate it is light to medium in body, with vibrant acidity and a clean, zesty finish. It works nicely with fresh seafood, green salads, and light pasta dishes.
