NV Mylonas - Retsina (750ml)
Mylonas is a small family winery based in Keratea, in the Attica region of Greece, where Stamatis Mylonas and his brothers represent the third generation to farm the family's vineyards since taking over in 2000. Their land sits within the Lavreotiki UNESCO Global Geopark, prized for its unusually mineral-rich soils, and the family farms without irrigation or chemical inputs, guided by an organic and biodynamic mindset. Mylonas has become closely associated with reviving the reputation of Savatiano, the traditional grape of Attica long overshadowed by its association with mass-produced Retsina.
The Savatiano vines for this wine grow at elevations between 200 and 350 meters on sandy clay over limestone, where dry winds keep yields naturally low and concentrate flavor in the fruit. After a gentle pressing, the juice ferments in stainless steel with a small amount of fresh Aleppo pine resin added each summer, a technique aimed at a subtle herbal lift rather than the heavier, medicinal character found in older-style Retsina. Under Greek appellation law Retsina cannot carry a vintage date, though the wine is always made from a single year's harvest and released while young and fresh.
The wine pours a bright lemon color with green highlights, offering aromas of peach, mango, mastic, and white flowers layered with rosemary and other herbs. The palate stays light and vibrant, with crisp acidity carrying through to a long, herbal finish. It pairs naturally with grilled fish, meze platters, and other casual Mediterranean fare.
