Powers John's Lane 12 yr Irish Whiskey 750ml

James Power founded his Dublin distillery in 1791, and Powers went on to become the very first Irish whiskey ever bottled, growing into one of the country's most beloved brands. The original John's Lane Distillery operated until the industry-wide consolidation of the 1970s, when Irish Distillers closed all the country's remaining distilleries and shifted production to the newly built Midleton Distillery in County Cork. Released in 2011, Powers John's Lane pays tribute to that original site, reviving a bolder, more traditional style of single pot still whiskey and expanding what the category could offer alongside established names like Redbreast and Green Spot.

Powers John's Lane is made from a mash of malted and unmalted barley, triple distilled in copper pot stills in the classic single pot still tradition. The whiskey matures for a minimum of twelve years, primarily in second- and third-fill ex-bourbon barrels with a portion aged in Oloroso sherry casks, a combination chosen to echo the maturation style of the original Dublin distillery. It is bottled non-chill filtered at 46% ABV, preserving the fuller texture and bolder character the release was designed to showcase.

The nose brings leather, tobacco, and charred wood alongside dark chocolate and treacle toffee, with floral and dried apricot notes underneath. On the palate, full-bodied spice meets vanilla, honey, and citrus peel, finishing long and warm with lingering oak and a last touch of dried fruit.
