Proper No. Twelve Triple Distilled Whiskey 750ml
Proper No. Twelve launched in 2018 under Eire Born Spirits, the company founded by mixed martial artist Conor McGregor, who named the whiskey after Dublin 12, the postal district covering Crumlin, where he was born and raised. McGregor worked alongside David Elder, a former Guinness employee and Bushmills blender, testing close to one hundred different blends before settling on the final recipe. The brand quickly became one of the best-selling celebrity-backed whiskeys on the market, and in 2021 McGregor sold it to Becle, the parent company of Proximo Spirits and Bushmills, though production has continued at one of Ireland's oldest distilleries.
Proper No. Twelve is a blend of golden grain whiskey and single malt, triple distilled for a smoother, lighter character than double-distilled styles typically offer. The malt component comes from traditional copper pot stills, while the grain whiskey is produced in a large column still, and the two are matured separately in ex-bourbon barrels before blending. The whiskey carries no age statement beyond Ireland's required minimum of three years, and is bottled at 40% ABV.
The nose brings vanilla, honey, and toasted wood, with soft floral and grassy notes underneath. On the palate, apple and pear sweetness meets caramel and a touch of peppery spice, finishing gently warm with a last note of toasted oak.
