2025 Marenco - Brachetto d'Acqui DOCG Pineto (750ml)
Marenco has been producing wine in the Strevi hills of Piedmont since 1896, making it one of the longer-standing family estates in the Monferrato area. Giuseppe Marenco modernized the winery's approach in the 1950s, expanding beyond grape growing into full production and gradually acquiring additional vineyard sites around the family's original La Marchesa holding in the Bagnario Valley. His three daughters now oversee the estate, which farms roughly 160 acres across the region's varied microclimates while staying true to the family's original winemaking philosophy.
Pineto is made entirely from Brachetto, a grape native to the hills around Acqui Terme, hand-harvested in early September. After destemming, the grapes macerate briefly on their skins for two to three days to draw out color before the juice is clarified and fermented in temperature-controlled pressurized tanks. Fermentation is stopped through filtration once the wine reaches about 5% alcohol, leaving natural sweetness and fine, gentle bubbles without any added sugar.
This wine pours a delicate ruby red with a soft, persistent bead, and offers an aromatic bouquet of rose petals, raspberries, and strawberries typical of the variety. The palate carries that same fruit character, staying light and harmonious with a touch of natural sweetness balanced by fresh acidity.
