The 2018 Cappellano Barolo Pie Rupestris offers a structured Nebbiolo expression that balances concentrated red fruit with refined tannic architecture. Vinified using traditional methods and matured in large wooden casks, this bottling prioritizes aromatic transparency and age-worthy stamina over immediate power.

Tasting notes center on crushed cherry, dried rose, and graphite, supported by a vibrant acidic spine and a finish marked by hints of leather, tar, and dried herbs. The vintage delivers polished structure and early accessibility, while retaining sufficient density to evolve gracefully over several years in the cellar.

Serve this wine alongside robust, savory dishes that complement its firm mouthfeel. Braised game, wild mushroom risotto, traditional cured meats, and aged pecorino provide the necessary fat and umami to soften the tannins and amplify the wine’s floral core. Decant forty-five to sixty minutes before pouring to integrate the aroma profiles, and store unopened bottles upright away from direct sunlight and temperature fluctuations.

Each 750-milliliter container holds a measured pour suited for sharing among four guests, reflecting the wine’s structured concentration without overwhelming the palate.

"The 2018 Barolo Rupestris is usually a bigger wine than the Franco. It is

again in 2018, with more fruit but also more tannin. Accordingly, it may

need a bit more time to come into its own. Iron, cedar, white pepper,

tobacco and blood orange give the Rupestris a level of aromatic intensity

that is not always present in this wine. The 2018 is gorgeous, but it's a

Rupestris that is only going to blossom in the cellar. Many years ago, Baldo

Cappellano asked me not to score his wines, so all Cappellano wines show

up on our database as NR
