2018 Firriato Harmonium
Grown on the coastal sandy-limestone soils near Menfi in western Sicily, the 2018 Firriato Harmonium captures the distinctive balance of altitude, sea breeze, and continental temperature swings that define the Valdenani vineyards. Cultivated using sustainable agricultural practices and harvested fully ripe, the grapes deliver the concentrated aromatic intensity and structured acidity expected from Firriato’s flagship white cuvée.
The bouquet opens with bright notes of yellow plum, green apple, and crushed lemon rind, layered with subtle hints of wild thyme and Mediterranean garrigue. On the palate, the wine shows a streamlined, velvety entry that quickly transitions to a focused mid-palate driven by crisp malic acidity and a lingering saline-mineral finish. Fermented in temperature-controlled vessels and kept on fine lees until bottling, Harmonium retains its primary fruit purity while developing a rounded, food-friendly texture that ages gracefully through two to four additional years.
Suggested Food Pairings
The wine’s vibrant acidity and restrained tannin profile make it exceptionally versatile with light to medium-bodied dishes. Serve with pan-roasted branzino or sea bass dressed with lemon, capers, and olive oil, shellfish risottos, or grilled swordfish medallions marinated in rosemary and garlic. Crisp-topped flatbreads with ricotta and roasted vegetables, as well as young washed-rind cheeses like Caprino or fresh Pecorino Toscano, provide pleasant textural contrasts that highlight the wine’s citrus backbone and herbal finish.
