Harvested from one of Barolo's most esteemed crus, the 2019 Azelia Barolo Cerretta delivers a concentrated expression of Piedmont's native Nebbiolo. This vintage anchors its bright fruit character behind a sturdy tannic framework, establishing a clear trajectory for gradual maturation.

Tasting Profile: The glass deposits a deep garnet hue before releasing layered aromatics of ripe cherry, plum, and dried rose petals. With exposure to air, the bouquet grounds itself in notes of licorice, cured tobacco, and loamy earth. On the palate, vibrant acidity cuts through a dense tannic matrix, delivering a robust yet highly refined mouthfeel. The sequence concludes with a remarkably persistent finish that emphasizes dark fruit residue and subtle spice.

Cellaring & Food Pairings: Built for longevity, this wine rewards patient storage, allowing its primary fruit to integrate with savory secondary notes over several years. When paired with food, focus on rich, protein-forward dishes. Excellent matches include slow-braised meats, mushroom or truffle preparations, and firmly textured aged cheeses. Briefly decant the bottle to soften the initial tannic presence and unlock the full aromatic spectrum.

"Cerretta is one of my favorite sites in Serralunga d'Alba because it consists of vines wrapped around a hilltop with various exposures. For that reason, Cerretta wines can vary widely from producer to producer. The Azelia 2019 Barolo Cerretta has dark fruit and spice, but the bouquet is mostly colored by flinty mineral tones, smoke and pencil shaving. It offers terrific balance and also manages some softly perfumed notes of violet and blue flower that you don't get in the other wines. It sees 50 days of extended maceration and 30 months of aging in large oak casks. This is a very limited production of 3,200 bottles."
