The 2019 Carpineto Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Riserva delivers a precise expression of Tuscany’s historic terroir, built on estate-grown Prugnolo Gentile vines anchored in the region’s cool, heavy clay soils. Sourced exclusively from Carpineto’s Montepulciano property, this DOCG Riserva undergoes a ten-to-fifteen-day skin maceration with gentle pump-over techniques that extract structure without harshness. Following fermentation, the base ages for eighteen to twenty-four months in large Slavonian oak barrels and smaller French oak cooperage, then rests another year in bottle before release—an extended maturation timeline that develops the structural complexity required for Riserva classification.

Pour reveals a brilliant ruby core shifting toward garnet. The nose opens with concentrated violet, spiced cherry, and lightly toasted wood. On the palate, dry full-bodied intensity meets a velvety mid-section anchored by firm, structured tannins. Mature layers of black plum, damp earth, cured leather, and tobacco weave through to a prolonged, savory finish.

This wine handles rich, game-forward preparations exceptionally well, making wild boar, slow-roasted venison, or heavy beef stew natural companions. The same firm acid structure and grippy tannins also cut cleanly through hard, salty cheeses, allowing aged Pecorino to shine alongside each pour. Supplied in a standard 750ml bottle.

91 Points
"A fluid red, with cherry and plum flavors accented by tomato leaf and juniper. Reveals earth and iron notes as this firms up on the lingering finish. Open and stays fruity through the end. Sangiovese and Canaiolo. Drink now through 2028. 12,500 cases made, 6,500 cases imported."
