Sourced from the historic Castello del Terriccio estate in Castellina Marittima, this 2019 Tassinaia is crafted from an almost equal blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The vines grow on mineral-rich, stony soils at elevations between 100 and 300 meters, where southern exposure and coastal air maintain balance throughout the ripening cycle.

Hand harvesting begins in late August for the Merlot and extends into September for the Cabernet. Fruit undergoing roughly two weeks of maceration ferments in temperature-controlled steel tanks before transferring to French oak barriques for 16 to 18 months of aging. A combination of new and previously filled barrels integrates fine tannins while preserving the wine’s natural fruit density.

The 2019 vintage pours a deep purple-red, opening with aromas of dark berries, sour cherry, soft spice, vanilla, and Mediterranean scrubland herbs. On the palate, the wine demonstrates a controlled structure softened by polished tannins and a long, evenly distributed finish.

Complement these savory and fruity layers with grilled red meats, roasted game dishes, or aged cheeses. Presenting the wine alongside rich, slow-braised or char-grilled preparations highlights its herbal complexity and balanced acidity.

91 Points
"This is a blend of equal parts Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon that was first produced in 1992. The Castello del Terriccio 2019 Tassinaia hits a very attractive price point and offers lots of dark fruit concentration and richness along the way. Grilled herb, candied watermelon, tar and spice appear on the nose. The wine travels over the palate with some sharpness, good freshness and overall accessibility."
