The 2020 Vietti Barolo Brunate channels the precise terroir of Piedmont’s most sought-after shared vineyard, straddling La Morra and Castiglione Falletto. Grown on deep, chalky marl and well-drained gravel plots, the Nebbiolo vines yield a wine defined by aromatic intensity, refined tannic structure, and the vibrant acidity characteristic of the 2020 vintage. Botanical extracts of dried rose and wild thyme sit alongside core notes of sour cherry, blackberry compote, and a whisper of tar, delivering both immediate appeal and long-term aging potential.

This Barolo balances power with elegance, presenting a dense mid-palate supported by grippy yet silky tannins. Subtle integration of French and Slovenian oak adds layers of sweet tobacco and vanilla bean without masking the vineyard’s signature minerality. Decanting for sixty to ninety minutes optimizes the aromatic profile, while cellaring beyond five years will soften the structure and deepen secondary earth and leather notes.

  • Traditional Piedmontese cuts including braised veal shanks and slow-cooked wild boar ragù
  • Egg-forward tajarin noodles dressed simply with butter, nutmeg, and grated Parmigiano-Reggiano
  • Crispy roast chicken or pork loin infused with juniper and fennel seeds
  • Matured hard cheeses such as Langhe Toma or aged Asiago
Store this 750ml bottle vertically in a temperature-stable environment between 54 and 58°F (12–14°C). Serve slightly below room temperature alongside rich, umami-forward dishes where wine acidity and structure play a central role. Vietti’s commitment to site-specific expression and careful maceration makes this release a reliable anchor for either immediate collection enjoyment or cellar planning.
95 Points
"The Vietti 2020 Barolo Brunate has a dark and spicy side that is infused throughout the fruit. Dark cherry and blackcurrant are folded into ferrous earth, grilled rosemary, aniseed and a hint of fresh mint. Brunate tends to be quite austere and firm in terms of its aromas, and this vintage shows those qualities well. In fact, the character of the site comes through clearly. The wine has a precise, angular personality, and the fruit feels compact. Only 4,988 bottles were made."
