Located farther from the cooling Tanaro River breeze than neighboring crus, the Rio Sordo site features sandy, manganese-rich soils with notably low calcium content. This unique geology shapes a Nebbiolo with a more translucent structure and earlier-developing tannins compared to heavier clay-based estates like Asili or Rabajà.

Every batch reflects the rigorous standards of Produttori del Barbaresco’s pioneering collective model, uniting approximately fifty-six family growers across 100 hectares of the valley’s most prized slopes. Following harvest, the grapes undergo extended maceration and mature entirely in traditional large-format wooden casks. This patient approach preserves the pure expression of the site while building the structural backbone required for long-term cellaring.

The 2021 vintage reveals a smoldering core of black cherry and blackberry anchored by iron, damp underbrush, and fine leather undertones. It balances a dense, square-shouldered mid-palate with crisp acidity, graduating to a broad finish whose tannic architecture will gradually polish with additional bottle age.
