2022 Burlotto - Barolo (750ml)
The 2022 Burlotto Barolo marks a deliberate return to Piedmont’s traditional blending philosophy, consolidating premium fruit from Verduno’s northernmost vineyards into one cohesive expression.
When the challenging 2022 growing conditions meant that single-site selections like Monvigliero, Cannubi, and Acclivi lacked the individual distinction required for top-tier classification, winemaker Fabio Alessandria consolidated all lots. The resulting cuvée highlights the cool-climate character of his estate parcels, fermented in open-top wooden vats and aged exclusively in large botti before extended bottle rest.
Aromatically complex from the start, this vintage releases notes of red cherry, blackberry, dried roses, violet, and crushed herbs, layered with savory leather, camphor, and baking spice. The tannins are refined yet structured, demanding three to five years of cellar aging to fully integrate. Serving the wine slightly decanted allows its mineral undertones and aromatic depth to unfold gradually.
This traditional Barolo aligns naturally with rich, slow-cooked regional preparations. Serve alongside braised veal cheeks, wild mushroom risotto, or hearty truffle pasta to complement its earthy complexity, or enjoy it with aged Parmigiano-Reggiano and pecorino for contrast against its bright acidity.
