Sourced from four documented coastal vineyards and finished in neutral oak and concrete without heavy new wood, Le Macchiole’s 2022 Bolgheri Rosso delivers a transparent, tannic structure that clearly separates its Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Syrah components.

Estate Sourcing & Winemaking

Grapes come exclusively from the Puntone, Vignone, Casa Nuova, and I Sommi plots, where vines range between five and twenty-five years old. The Campolmi family manages these parcels organically, eliminating all synthetic chemical inputs. During production, the fruit undergoes approximately fifteen days of fermentation and maceration in stainless steel before transferring into neutral oak barrels and concrete vats for a ten-month rest. This vessel strategy preserves primary acidity and mineral lift while keeping oak extraction minimal.

Tasting Notes

The wine shows a youthful ruby red profile, opening with layered aromas of mixed berry preserve, dark chocolate, candied floral nuances, and sweet earth undertones. On the palate, it maintains a full-bodied architecture paired with bright acidity and pronounced chalky tannins that drive the flavors toward a lingering, saline finish.

Suggested Pairings

  • Proteins: Dry-aged ribeye, roasted squab or pheasant, and slowly braised beef short ribs
  • Pasta & Grains: Tagliatelle with slow-reduced tomato ragù or mushroom-based sauces
  • Cheese & Charcuterie: Aged Pecorino Toscano, cured salami, and grilled vegetables

This 750ml bottle reflects decades of continuous family stewardship in Bolgheri, offering immediate approachability while retaining the structural density required for short-to-mid term cellar development.

93 Points
"The Le Macchiole 2022 Bolgheri Rosso is currently on the market with a new vintage arriving soon. The 2022 growing season was hot and dry. In comparison, 2023 was hot with more rain toward the end of the season. This expression shows terrific fruit definition and firmness, with present but mild tannins at the back, and unexpected freshness that does the trick. The blend is Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah that sees a quick 12 days of skin maceration and is partially aged in cement and partially in oak."
