2022 Tenuta di Trinoro - Toscana Rosso IGT Campo di Camagi
Grown on a single-hectare parcel in Val d’Orcia at 550 meters elevation, the 2022 Tenuta di Trinoro Campo di Camagi relies on 100% Cabernet Franc cultivated in thin quartz and limestone strata. Cool mountain air and well-drained alkaline soils delay canopy development, allowing small berries to reach full physiological maturity while retaining crisp natural acidity.
The 2022 vintage followed an exceptionally dry period that further restricted vine vigor, lowering yields and intensifying flavor concentration. After hand-picking, the must undergoes a fortnight of cold maceration in stainless steel to extract primary fruit aromatics. The wine then moves into French oak barrels for partial barrel aging before completing its maturation in neutral cement tanks, a process designed to preserve varietal clarity and prevent excessive oxidative softening.
Tasting Profile: Refined dried cherry,血橙 peel (blood orange), and crushed rosemary sit atop a core of damp earth and graphite. Subsequent layers emerge as baked herb paste, dark cocoa, and clove-infused spice. The palate is tightly structured and remarkably long, with firm but velvety tannins and lively malic-citric acid driving immediate appeal through year five. Structural balance supports a straightforward aging window of eight to twelve years, during which oak integration and tertiary forest-floor notes will deepen.
Suggested Pairings:
- Herb-crusted grilled lamb racks or roasted suckling pig
- Two-year aged Pecorino Toscano, mature Gorgonzola Piccante, or nutty Parmigiano Reggiano
- Tomato-forward braised beef shin, porcini risotto, or wild boar sausage with fennel seeds
