Capturing the distinct limestone-rich slope of the Gorizia hills, the 2023 Jermann Capo Martino In Ruttaris blends four Friulian natives—Friulano, Ribolla Gialla, Malvasia Istriana, and Picolit—through brief skin contact and extended aging in large Slavonian oak.

Grown across a 7.5-hectare estate parcel originally replanted between 1996 and 2003, the vines yield concentrated must that ferments slowly to preserve delicate aromatic compounds. The wine finishes its primary evolution in neutral wood for roughly fourteen months before spending an additional two years maturing in bottle, allowing natural acids and saline minerals to integrate without heavy wood interference.

Tasting notes reveal a bright golden hue layered with lime blossom, crushed peach, dried lemon rind, honeysuckle, and wild thyme. The mid-palette carries a firm stony core wrapped in silky texture, finishing long and briskly acidic with a savory sapid depth.

Match the wine with dishes that honor its coastal proximity and mineral-driven structure. Raw oysters, grilled whole fish, crab-shell bisques, and saffron seafood risottos harmonize beautifully with the framework, while herb-roasted chicken or creamy goat cheese tartlets provide enough richness to complement the wine’s natural acidity and lingering finish.

93 Points
"The Jermann 2023 Capo Martino is a blend of Friulano, Ribolla Gialla and Malvasia that represents a classic Friulian white trio, presented here in screw cap and opening to rich aromas of preserved lemon, orange, honeycomb, dried sage and yellow rose. You get beautiful complexity followed by spice and dusty mineral tones, with an edgy, sharp profile that concludes on a firm note. Fermented with indigenous yeasts in the same tonneaux and Slavonian oak botti (20 to 22 hectoliters) used for its 11 months of aging with lees stirring, this wine comes from a single seven-hectare vineyard with 32-year-old vines planted between 110 and 160 meters above sea level."
