2024 Medici Ermite - Reggiano DOC Lambrusco Secco Concerto (750ml)
Medici Ermete has been producing Lambrusco in Reggio Emilia since the 1890s, making it one of the oldest and most established houses in the appellation. Now in its fourth generation of family ownership, the winery has built a reputation on marrying old-fashioned Lambrusco craftsmanship with a genuine commitment to sustainability, becoming certified organic and later achieving Equalitas certification for its broader environmental practices. That dedication runs through the estate's full portfolio, but it finds its clearest expression in Concerto, widely regarded as one of the finest examples of the style on the market today.
Concerto holds a notable distinction as the world's first single-vineyard, vintage-dated Lambrusco, sourced from the organically farmed Tenuta La Rampata vineyard. The wine undergoes natural fermentation to develop its signature lively bubbles, a traditional approach that preserves the grape's fresh fruit character rather than relying on more industrial carbonation methods. This attention to vineyard-specific detail sets Concerto apart from the everyday blended Lambruscos found on most shelves.
In the glass, Concerto shows a bright, intense ruby red color with a persistent, delicate mousse. The nose offers vivid notes of strawberry, raspberry, and cherry, carrying through to a palate that is dry yet fruity, round, and lively, with acidity and tannins in easy balance. Serve it chilled alongside cured meats like salami or mortadella, or tortellini in broth.
