2025 Brovia - Roero DOCG Arneis (750ml)
Giacinto Brovia founded his family’s estate in 1863 in Castiglione Falletto, in the heart of the Barolo zone. The Brovias spent generations buying some of the area’s finest sites, including the Rocche di Castiglione, Villero and Garblèt Sué crus. Production stopped for about twenty years after the founder’s son died in 1932, then resumed in 1953 under his grandsons Giacinto and Raffaele. Today the fourth generation runs the winery: sisters Elena and Cristina Brovia, along with Elena’s husband, Alex Sanchez. They farm without chemicals and make traditional wines.
The Roero Arneis is the estate’s only white wine. It comes from a vineyard of less than one hectare in Vezza d’Alba, across the Tanaro River from Barolo, and production is only a few thousand bottles a year. Planted in 1980, the vines grow in the sandy soils typical of Roero on south-facing slopes about 340 meters up. The grapes are picked by hand in mid-September and briefly macerated. They then ferment at about 15°C for two to three weeks, and the wine rests in stainless steel until the following spring.
This Arneis has a mineral backbone carrying stone fruit, citrus, pear and apricot, with a slightly bitter floral note on the finish. It is fresh and balanced but still concentrated. Pair it with burrata, soft goat cheese or light cured meats.
