9diDANTE is the creation of Alex Ouziel, working under the mentorship of Mario Baralis, a master blender with more than thirty years of vermouth experience. The Piedmont-based brand builds its entire range around Dante's Divine Comedy, moving from the red Inferno through this Purgatorio and on to a rosé Paradiso, treating each bottling as another stage of the poet's journey while keeping local Piedmontese wine at the center of every recipe.

Purgatorio holds the distinction of being the first Vermouth di Torino Superiore made exclusively from Arneis, a native Piedmont grape prized in its own DOC wines. Twenty-seven botanical essences are hand-extracted at the company's distillery in Alba, nine of them chosen symbolically for the nine terraces of Mount Purgatory, including woodruff, thyme, sage, mint, wormwood, lemon peel, and bitter orange peel. No charcoal filtering or additives are used, and the finished vermouth reaches eighteen percent alcohol.

The nose is floral, carrying the pear and apricot character typical of Arneis, while the palate turns fresh and lemony with sage and mint running through a mildly bitter finish touched by cinnamon and pepper. Stir it into a dry martini, sip it over ice with a lemon twist, or serve it alongside biscotti and fresh berries.
