Antica Torino Rosso Vermouth 750ml
Antica Torino was founded in 2016 by Vittorio Zoppi and Filippo Antonelli, with a mission to revive traditional Piedmontese aromatized wines and liqueurs largely forgotten by modern producers. Rather than reaching for imported exotics, the pair built their recipe around ingredients that would have grown in a Piedmontese backyard, drawing inspiration from the oldest Savoy-era formulas and the aromatized wine culture that made Turin famous during the Belle Époque. The house continues to operate on a small, cottage-industry scale from Piedmont, working toward the region's protected Vermouth di Torino designation.
Rosso starts with a blend of Piedmontese white wines, including Bombino, Trebbiano, and Freisa, along with a small portion of Moscato for floral lift, fortified with neutral grain spirit distilled from Italian wheat. Thirteen botanicals go into the mix, among them wormwood, rhubarb, gentian, grapefruit peel, vanilla bean, rosemary, and red thyme, each hand-cut and steeped individually before blending with wine and beet sugar. The vermouth then rests in stainless steel tanks for several weeks before a final bottle-conditioning period rounds out the flavor.
The result pours a deep amber-red, with an intense, herbal nose of bay leaf, gentian, and ripe rhubarb alongside fresh citrus peel. The palate turns sweet and spiced, with ginger and rhubarb carrying through to a long, herbaceous finish.
