Caffo Limoncino dell'Isola (Limoncello) Liqueur 750ml
Caffo Limoncino dell'Isola comes from the Fratelli Caffo Distillery, based in Limbadi in the Calabria region of southern Italy. The family's distilling story goes back to the late nineteenth century, when Giuseppe Caffo, born in 1865, began distilling pomace near Mount Etna in Sicily. In 1915 he purchased an old distillery in Santa Venerina to pursue the craft full time, laying the foundation for what has since grown into Gruppo Caffo 1915, a company whose spirits now reach roughly sixty countries.
Limoncino dell'Isola is made in the traditional Calabrian style, distinct from the more familiar limoncello of the Amalfi Coast. Rather than the larger lemons typical of that region, it draws on small, intensely aromatic Calabrian lemons, whose zest is infused to extract oils and flavor. The producer adds no artificial coloring or extra sugar, which is why the finished liqueur takes on the pale, natural hue of fresh lemonade rather than the bright synthetic yellow seen in many mass-market limoncellos.
On the nose, Limoncino dell'Isola offers bright, freshly sliced lemon with subtle herbal and floral undertones reminiscent of orange blossom. The palate balances real citrus tartness against a gentle honeyed sweetness, finishing clean and smooth with a faintly earthy note that lingers pleasantly after each sip.
