Cappelletti Vino Aperitivo Aperitif 750ml
Cappelletti Vino Aperitivo comes from Antica Erboristeria Cappelletti, a family herbalist shop founded in Trento in the early 1900s by Giuseppe Cappelletti. The business originally sold herbs, roots, and flowers from a storefront in the city's historic center before expanding into aperitivi and amari, and it remains family run today, now in its fourth generation and based in the countryside town of Aldeno, south of Trento.
Known locally as "il Specialino," this aperitivo is built on a base of Italian white grapes, primarily Trebbiano along with Pinot Bianco and Garganega, rather than the neutral grain spirit used by larger commercial red bitters. Mountain herbs are macerated into the wine, and the liqueur gets its crimson hue from natural carmine, a coloring extracted from cochineal that the region has prized for centuries, rather than synthetic dye. Production stays small and largely artisanal, a point of pride the family has kept even as bigger competitors turned to industrial methods.
Cappelletti pours a vibrant coral-red and offers aromas of berries and orange blossom with a savory herbal edge. The palate leans juicy and citrusy, moving toward blood orange and candied peel, before finishing notably dry and bitter compared to sweeter commercial bitters, a character that comes directly from its wine base.
