Meletti Amaro Liqueur 750ml
Meletti is a family-owned liqueur house founded in 1870 by Silvio Meletti in Ascoli Piceno, a town in Italy's Le Marche region along the Adriatic coast. Silvio built the company on a proprietary bain-marie distillation method, developed through careful study of the slow-evaporation process, which produces unusually aromatic distillates. The family sources most of its herbs and botanicals from local growers who work exclusively with Meletti, and the company remains family-run today under Matteo Meletti, representing the fifth generation.
Meletti Amaro follows a recipe Silvio developed in the late 19th century that has stayed largely unchanged since. Its base blend macerates more than thirty botanicals, including wormwood, gentian, clove, cardamom, saffron, and dried orange peel, drawing on both alpine and coastal ingredients thanks to Ascoli Piceno's position in the Apennine foothills. After maceration, the liqueur matures in large wooden casks, a step that softens its bitterness while preserving herbal depth. The finished amaro is bottled at 32% alcohol by volume.
The nose opens with bright citrus peel and dried chamomile. On the palate, bittersweet orange gives way to mild cinnamon and cocoa notes, with a natural sweetness balancing the bitterness throughout, finishing clean and approachable rather than sharply dry.
