Pierre Ferrand Dry Curacao Liqueur 750ml
Pierre Ferrand is part of Maison Ferrand, founded in 1989 by Alexandre Gabriel in the Grande Champagne region of Cognac. Gabriel built the house around cognac made exclusively from grapes grown in the estate's own vineyards in the prized "golden triangle," later expanding into a wider portfolio that includes Citadelle Gin and the Plantation rum range. Dry CuraƧao emerged from this same spirit of historical curiosity, developed with cocktail historian David Wondrich to revive the drier, more complex style of orange liqueur that bartenders relied on before World War Two.
The liqueur is built from a nineteenth-century formula, starting with the bitter peels of Laraha oranges, the variety native to the island of CuraƧao, along with sweet orange peel, lemon peel, prunes, vanilla, and more than a dozen other botanicals. These are macerated in unaged brandy, then re-distilled and blended with aged brandy and Ferrand's own cognac before resting in oak casks. The finished liqueur is bottled at forty percent alcohol by volume.
Dry CuraƧao opens with an intense burst of spiced orange peel, layered with orange blossom and hints of candied fruit. The palate is rich and bittersweet, moving through honey, marzipan, and baking spice before finishing dry, with subtle cognac warmth lingering underneath.
