Romana Sambuca Liqueur 750ml

Sambuca Romana comes from the Pallini family, who have made spirits in Rome since 1875 and in 1964 secured exclusive rights to use the "Sambuca Romana" name, setting their bottling apart from the many generic sambucas that share the category. Sambuca itself is generally traced back to Carthusian monks, who are believed to have first developed it for medicinal purposes before it grew into one of Italy's most widely enjoyed liqueurs through the nineteenth century. Today Romana Sambuca holds the position of the best selling sambuca in the United States, produced by the Pallini family according to methods refined over roughly a century and a half.

Production starts with the distillation of green anise and star anise, forming the liqueur's dominant flavor base. Elderberry extract is then added, contributing to the name sambuca itself, and the distillate undergoes maceration before being sweetened using the family's closely guarded natural formula. The result is a clear, full-bodied liqueur with pronounced botanical character.

The nose opens with fennel root and licorice before deepening into anise seed and brown sugar. On the palate, the entry is lush and immediately sweet, led by rich star anise, with a smooth, velvety texture carrying through to a warm, lingering finish.
