2015 Antoine et Philippe Delaunay - Muscadet Nord-Ouest Chateau-Thebaud (750ml)
A 2015 Muscadet still in its prime — proof that great Melon de Bourgogne ages like few whites in the world.
Philippe Delaunay established the family domaine in 1983, continuing a multi-generational tradition of winegrowing in the Loire. Their Nord-Ouest cuvée is sourced from the Grands Brosseau parcel in Vertou, with a northwest-facing exposure, grown on granodiorite soils and aged an extraordinary 54 months on lees in tank — a process that fully reveals the character of this remarkable terroir.
Château-Thébaud is one of the ten prestigious Cru Communaux designations within Muscadet Sèvre et Maine — the smallest of the crus, situated above the cliffs of the Maine river, with subsoils of granodiorite and gneiss that impart a creamy character alongside profound minerality.
The nose reveals ripe apple, white fruits, white flowers, candied citrus, and a smoky hint. The palate is complex and delicate, with a remarkable balance of minerality and the roundness of ripe fruit. After a decade in bottle, this still has plenty up its sleeve — freshness, acidity, tension, and complexity. A very great bottle at a low price.
Proof that Muscadet belongs in the conversation with the world's great age-worthy whites
