Domaine Olga Raffault has been crafting Chinon for five generations from its base in Savigny-en-Véron, nestled between the Loire and Vienne rivers. Olga Raffault built the estate's reputation over decades of dedicated winemaking, and today her granddaughter Sylvie, along with husband Eric de la Vigerie, continues that legacy with certified organic farming across the property's historic vineyards.

Les Barnabés draws on parcels shaped by the Loire's alluvial deposits and the Vienne's gravel beds, giving the wine its signature combination of freshness and structure. The Cabernet Franc grapes are left whole and uncrushed during an initial steeping period, with the must then gradually warmed toward twenty-five degrees Celsius to coax out primary fruit and floral aromatics before fermentation completes.

The result is a wine of deep ruby color with violet reflections, opening to aromas of violet, raspberry, and blackcurrant. On the palate it is moderately weighted and juicy, with supple, velvety tannins that carry into a smooth, enveloping texture and a delicate finish. It pairs beautifully with roast lamb, herb-roasted poultry, or fresh goat cheese.

91 Points
"Aromas of violet, spring flowers and dark wild berries preface the 2022 Chinon Les Barnabés, a moderately weighted, juicy and enveloping wine with a seamless, enveloping texture that segues into a delicate finish thanks to velvety tannins. This is a fine Cabernet Franc that offers nuanced complexity."
