2023 Baudry - Chinon Grezeaux (750ml)
Domaine Bernard Baudry is widely regarded as Chinon's finest address, built over decades by Bernard Baudry and now led by his son Mathieu. The family farms organically across a patchwork of parcels throughout the appellation, each showing a distinct expression of Cabernet Franc depending on its soil. Les Grézeaux comes from one of the estate's earliest and most prized plots, purchased back in the 1970s and now home to some of the domaine's oldest vines.
The Grézeaux vineyard sits on gravelly, sandy soils near the Vienne River, where vines over sixty years old dig deep for water and minerality. Grapes are harvested entirely by hand and fermented with native yeasts, without added sulfur during vinification. Since 2017 the wine has been aged in large, slightly porous cement vats rather than oak, a choice that preserves the pure, direct expression of fruit and terroir that defines this cuvée.
The 2023 shows a bright red and black fruit character, with notes of blackberry and raspberry backed by a savory, smoky undertone from the gravel soils. The palate is fresh and mouthwatering, carried by brisk acidity and fine-grained tannin toward a lively finish. Serve it with grilled steak, charcuterie, or roast duck.
