NV H.M. Borges - Madeira Bual 15 Year Old

H.M. Borges remains one of only eight bottlers still producing Madeira on the island, a small but storied company founded in Funchal in 1877 by Henrique Menezes Borges and still run by his descendants. Producing roughly 200,000 bottles a year, the house maintains a full range spanning three to fifteen years of age, alongside rare single-harvest Frasqueiras drawn from its oldest reserves and aged in oak for decades.

This wine is made entirely from Boal, blended across multiple harvest years to reach an average age of fifteen. As with the rest of the Borges range, the grapes are fermented with skin contact under controlled temperatures before the wine settles into cask for its long maturation, developing the depth and richness characteristic of well-aged Bual.

The color is amber with brownish nuances, and the nose is fine, woody, and complex, layered with vanilla, toast, and dried fruit alongside a subtle tea-like note. On the palate the wine is medium sweet, clear, and elegant, its acidity and body working in harmony with soft tannins and flavors of chocolate, dried fruit, and beeswax. It pairs beautifully with a fresh fruit tart, a cheese course, or simply on its own as a digestif.
