H.M. Borges was founded in 1877 by Henrique Menezes Borges, who spent his life sourcing the best wines produced across Madeira for careful aging, and the company remains one of the island's smallest producers, still run today by the fourth generation of his family. Its permanent range spans dry through sweet styles at various ages, all matured in the family's traditional cellars in Funchal.

This Reserve is a blend made primarily from Tinta Negra, Madeira's most widely planted grape and the base for many of its everyday styles, aged a minimum of five years in cask. That aging is shorter than the house's Colheita or vintage bottlings, giving a wine that is more approachable and immediate, though it still develops real character through time spent absorbing the wood's influence.

The wine pours a clear, open topaz color and offers a bouquet rich with baking spice, dried fruit, and dried leaf infusions, along with a warm vanilla sweetness typical of the style. On the palate it opens sweet and soft, carrying notes of honey and brown sugar through a gentle, lingering finish. It suits dessert courses well, particularly alongside baked pastries or a plate of nutty cheeses.
