A store pick selected by Paul & Rodrigo, our tequila gurus

Alma del Jaguar comes from the fifth-generation Vivanco family distillery, NOM 1414, set in the highlands of Los Altos, Jalisco. The house is built around an unusual fermentation approach that pairs native wild yeast with imported Champagne yeast, a method credited to master distiller Sergio Cruz working alongside Adam Fodor of the International Tequila Academy. Alongside its production, the brand supports the Northern Jaguar Project, funding conservation efforts for the northernmost wild jaguar population on earth.

Barrel #46 is another single cask store pick, bottled at 98.4 proof directly from the barrel with no chill filtration and nothing blended away. The agave is grown above 6,800 feet in the Los Altos highlands, slow cooked for 54 hours in traditional brick ovens, then double distilled in copper pot stills. Fermentation follows the house blend of 80 percent wild yeast and 20 percent Champagne yeast, and this particular barrel spent roughly 23 months resting in a combination of American and French oak.

At full cask strength, Barrel #46 shows the bold, unfiltered character typical of Los Altos añejo. Caramel, toasted coconut, and vanilla lead the way, layered with warm baking spice and a wild herbal brightness that reflects the agave's high-elevation origin. The result is a dense, richly textured tequila built for slow, deliberate sipping rather than mixing.

Every bottle supports jaguar conservation through the Northern Jaguar Project in Sonora, Mexico — protecting the northernmost wild jaguar population on earth. A great pick with a great cause behind it.
