Los Siete Misterios Espadin-Tobala Artesanal Mezcal 750ml
Los Siete Misterios was founded in 2010 by brothers Eduardo and Julio Mestre, who set out to preserve traditional mezcal production centered in Sola de Vega, a district in Oaxaca's Sierra Sur best known as the birthplace of the prized Tobalá agave. This ensamble unites that rare Tobalá with the region's more common Espadín, continuing the brand's practice of partnering with local Maestros Mezcaleros who have passed their techniques down through generations.
Tobalá, often called the king of agaves, stands apart from Espadín in both size and biology, growing far smaller and reproducing only by seed rather than by offshoots, which makes it scarce and labor-intensive to harvest in the quantities needed for mezcal. For this blend, both agaves are cooked together in a traditional underground earthen oven, then hand milled and left to ferment naturally before distillation, following the same artisanal methods used across the Sola de Vega line. Blending the two varieties lets the brand stretch Tobalá's limited supply while still showcasing its distinctive character alongside Espadín's more approachable body.
The nose opens with roasted pineapple, fresh green herbs, and bright citrus over sweet cooked agave. On the palate, a hint of eucalyptus lifts the fruit-forward profile, unfolding into a full-bodied, lingering finish that reflects the complexity of the blend.
