Patrón was co-founded in 1989 by John Paul DeJoria, of John Paul Mitchell hair products fame, and Martin Crowley, introducing the world to what became known as ultra-premium tequila. The recipe was originally developed by master distiller Francisco Alcaraz and first produced at the historic Siete Leguas distillery before Patrón built its own facility, Hacienda Patrón, near Atotonilco El Alto, Jalisco, in the early 2000s. Bacardi acquired the brand in 2018, a testament to how thoroughly Patrón had come to define the premium tequila category.

This tequila is made from 100% Blue Weber agave sourced from the Los Altos highlands of Jalisco, using just three ingredients: agave, yeast, and water. The agave hearts are slow roasted in ovens before the standard line is produced from a blend of agave crushed two ways, half by traditional stone tahona wheel and half by modern roller mill, a combination meant to balance old-world depth with clean consistency. Fermentation takes place in wooden vats, and the resulting liquid is distilled in small copper pot stills before bottling unaged in individually numbered, hand-blown bottles.

The nose offers fresh agave and fruit layered with citrus, while the palate is smooth and lightly sweet, built around cooked agave and soft fruit with black pepper building through the middle. The finish is clean and crisp with a light peppery spice that lingers pleasantly.
