2015 Marcarini - Barolo Brunate
Grown in the historic Brunate vineyard of La Morra, the 2015 Marcarini Barolo captures the generous ripeness of a warm Piedmont vintage while retaining the structured elegance expected from the region’s most awarded cru. Sourced from decades-old plantings on calcareous marl and sandstone, the 100% Nebbiolo grapes undergo extended skin fermentation followed by resting in large, neutral Slavonian oak botti. This traditional winemaking approach avoids new wood influence, preserving aromatics and delivering a pure expression of terroir.
The bouquet unfolds with crushed dark cherries, dried violets, tar, and subtle white pepper. On the palate, bright crimson fruit intertwines with dried herbs, cedar, and leathery spice supported by fine, velvety tannins. Vibrant acidity keeps the medium-plus body balanced, leading to a persistent finish threaded with tobacco leaf and wet stone. Unlike many older vintages that demand years of waiting, the 2015 shows considerable approachability now while retaining the architectural structure to age gracefully through the next decade.
To unlock its full profile, decant for sixty to ninety minutes before serving at 63–65°F. The wine’s savory core and polished grain make it a natural companion for slow-cooked protein and earthy ingredients. Recommended pairings include:
- Braised short ribs or traditional ossobuco
- Wild boar or venison ragù tossed with tajarin or pici pasta
- Freshly shaved black Alba truffles over soft polenta or risotto
- Aged Castelmagno, Taleggio, or forty-month Parmigiano-Reggiano
