2019 Massolino - Barolo Parafada
The 2019 Massolino Barolo Parafada delivers the structured elegance and terroir-driven complexity characteristic of Serralunga d’Alba’s premier single-cru vineyards.
Sourced exclusively from Nebbiolo grapes grown on calcareous clay and sandstone soils, this bottling reflects both the producer’s traditional winemaking philosophy and the ripe, balanced conditions of the 2019 Piedmont harvest.
On the nose, expect prominent aromas of dried roses, crushed stone, and dark red fruits layered with subtle hints of tobacco, cedar, and underbrush. The medium-plus body unfolds with bright natural acidity and finely woven tannins that grip cleanly without overpowering. Flavors of tart cherry, dried mint, and savory earth deepen through the finish, which holds length and mineral persistence typically associated with older vintages despite the wine’s relatively young age.
Massolino ages most of its portfolio in large neutral Slavonian oak casks, allowing pure varietal expression and vineyard detail to remain front and center rather than masking beneath wood-derived spices. This commitment to restraint highlights Parafada’s signature balance between power and refinement.
Decant for 30–45 minutes before serving at 16°C (61°F) to soften youthful edges and release deeper aromatic layers. It pairs naturally with rich, slow-cooked proteins and robust regional traditions: braised wild boar, osso buco, truffle-infused rice dishes, and aged cheeses like Parmigiano Reggiano or Castelmagno. With proper cellar storage, the 2019 Parafada will continue to integrate and develop tertiary notes for the next eight to ten years.
