The 2021 Brovia Barolo DOCG Rocche di Castiglione delivers the precise balance of violet perfume, dried cherry, and earthy tar that defines Castiglione Falletto’s most refined vineyards.

Cultivated entirely from the family-owned Rocche di Castiglione site, this 100 percent Nebbiolo captures the graceful, structured character of the 2021 Piedmont vintage. Clay-rich subsoils combined with east-facing slopes extend the growing season, preserving natural acidity while promoting even polyphenol development. As required for all DOCG Barolo, the wine rests in wooden casks before bottling, smoothing its tannic edge and preparing it for either immediate enjoyment or longer cellaring. Pouring it into a large carafe releases concentrated layers of pomegranate, licorice, and forest floor, creating a medium-bodied palate framed by fresh cranberry and a lingering chalky finish.

The wine’s bright acidity and integrated structure pair naturally with rich, slow-cooked proteins and earth-forward starches. Try it with Bra sausages, braised beef short ribs, wild boar ragù, or tajarin pasta dressed simply with brown butter and toasted hazelnuts. Aged cheeses such as Parmigiano Reggiano or Robiola di Roccaverano complement its savory depth without masking the delicate mineral undertones. Keep the bottle stored horizontally at 55–58°F in low humidity; while approachable after opening, it retains excellent cellaring trajectory for eight to twelve years, gradually evolving toward notes of leather, dried rose, and cured tobacco.

"The Brovia 2021 Barolo Rocche di Castiglione takes us back to, again, one of my favorite sites in the appellation. I go crazy for wines from this MGA. This expression is extremely nuanced and delicate, especially at first. The wine builds intensity later. Finely stitched aromas of fruit, minerals and blue flower make for a classical Nebbiolo. It shows good power and structure at the back. You should age it longer than most. Fermentation starts off in cement, and the wine is racked into French and Slavonian oak casks (40 hectoliters) for aging. The Rocche di Castiglione vineyard is distinguished by its high presence of sand. This 1.6-hectare plot sits at 300 to 350 meters in elevation with southeastern exposures. The vineyard is extremely steep and, with the loose soils, is challenging to farm. Diano sandstone and Sant'Agata Fossili Marl put these soils on the "younger" side of the Barolo geological spectrum. This wine will be released in September 2025, with 5,000 bottles."
