2016 Domaine Meo-Camuzet - Clos de Vougeot (750ml) [PRE ARRIVAL]

Domaine Méo-Camuzet is rooted in Vosne-Romanée, where Etienne Camuzet, a Côte-d'Or deputy in the early twentieth century, assembled the estate's finest parcels and was the last private owner of the Château du Clos de Vougeot before it passed to the Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin. The property later passed to Jean Méo, and since 1989 his son Jean-Nicolas Méo has directed the domaine, building on practices developed with the late Henri Jayer, whose influence shaped its meticulous, low-yield style.

The domaine farms roughly three hectares within the Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru, in the lieux-dits Grand Mapertuis and Près du Cellier, on clay and limestone soils near the château. Vines date from the 1920s, 1960s, and later plantings, and are farmed organically. Grapes are hand sorted and fully destemmed before fermentation, and the wine matures roughly seventeen months in barrique, with a high proportion of new oak. Bottling is done by gravity, unfiltered and largely without fining.

This 2016 is concentrated and brooding in its youth, with a silky, velvety texture beneath firm structure. Dark fruit, blackberry, black cherry, and red currant lead, layered with forest floor, baking spice, and mineral undertones. It carries notable length and power, and is built for extended cellaring rather than early drinking.
