2020 Cousino Macul - Finis Terrae (750ml)

From Cousiño Macul, founded in 1856 and the only 19th century Chilean winery still entirely in the hands of its founding family. Finis Terrae has been the flagship red blend since 1992, built on Cabernet Sauvignon with 30% Merlot and 5% Syrah, drawn mostly from the home vineyards in Macul on the edge of Santiago plus a small component from Buin in the Maipo Andes. Aged in French oak, it's medium-bodied and balanced, with ripe red and black fruit, spice, and the structure to reward a few years in the cellar or a decant tonight. Tim Atkin calls it effectively the second wine of the estate's Lota. Serious Chilean red at a very fair price.
